Its hexagonal crystal structure provides a silky and smooth feel, good slip and excellent skin adhesion properties which enables makeup stay on the face for long periods of time.
C
Caffeine
Caffeine is far more than your morning pick-me-up. When applied to the skin, it is a high-performance cosmetic ingredient known for helping reduce the appearance of tired, puffy eyes while providing antioxidant protection against everyday environmental stress. One of caffeine's best understood actions is its ability to temporarily constrict superficial blood vessels. Around the delicate eye area, this can help reduce the appearance of puffiness, making the eyes look fresher and more awake. For this reason, caffeine has become a staple ingredient in premium eye creams and targeted skincare formulations. Caffeine is also a powerful antioxidant. It helps defend the skin against free radicals generated by UV exposure and pollution, reducing oxidative stress that can contribute to premature skin ageing. Research has shown that topical caffeine can support healthier-looking skin by helping protect skin cells from everyday environmental damage. At MKND, we combine Caffeine with Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) because they complement each other exceptionally well. While caffeine helps minimise the appearance of puffiness and signs of fatigue, niacinamide strengthens the skin barrier, improves moisture retention and helps even skin tone over time. Together, they create a more refreshed, well-rested appearance while supporting healthier skin beneath the concealer. For men, this combination is particularly effective. Late nights, long workdays and stress often show first around the eyes. Rather than simply covering dark circles, MKND Concealer uses skincare-grade actives that help improve the overall appearance of the under-eye area while delivering natural-looking coverage. Like all cosmetic ingredients, caffeine works best with consistent use as part of a daily skincare routine. Its role is to visibly improve the appearance of tired skin, not to replace sleep—but it can certainly help you look like you've had more of it.

Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate
Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate is a highly purified derivative of licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) valued for its exceptional skin-soothing properties. It is widely used in modern skincare to calm visible redness, reduce irritation and support a healthy skin barrier, making it particularly beneficial for skin exposed to frequent shaving, environmental stress and daily grooming. Unlike ingredients that simply moisturise the skin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate works by helping regulate the skin's inflammatory response. Research has shown it can reduce the production of several pro-inflammatory signalling molecules involved in redness and irritation while supporting the skin's natural recovery processes. This is why it is commonly found in products formulated for sensitive, reactive and post-treatment skin. For men, these benefits are especially relevant. Regular shaving can disrupt the skin barrier, causing micro-irritation, redness and discomfort even when no visible cuts are present. Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate helps calm this low-level inflammation while supporting the skin's ability to retain moisture, leaving the complexion looking healthier, smoother and more even. Emerging research also suggests it may help regulate excess sebum and improve skin comfort in oily or blemish-prone skin, making it a valuable ingredient for men who experience shine without wanting heavy creams. At MKND, we value ingredients that deliver genuine skin benefits rather than temporary cosmetic effects. Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate was selected because it helps reduce the visible signs of irritation whilst supporting long-term skin health—an ideal partner for high-performance men's cosmetics that are designed to improve both appearance and skin condition over time.
- used in the BB Cream
Disteardimonium Hectorite
A mineral-based clay that plays a key role in stabilising and thickening cosmetic formulations. Beyond stability, it enhances texture, giving the formula a silky, blendable quality that improves application and finish.
Dunaliella salina
This extraordinary microalga thrives in the harsh, saline waters of Australia’s Pink Lakes, where intense sunlight and high salt levels would overwhelm most life. To survive, it produces exceptionally high levels of carotenoids — natural pigments with powerful antioxidant activity. These carotenoids not only give the lakes their striking pink hue but also help protect skin against oxidative stress, support elasticity, and promote a healthy, radiant tone. Rich in amino acids and carbohydrates, Dunaliella salina also delivers deep hydration and conditioning, helping the skin feel energised and rejuvenated. In our blushers, it provides more than colour inspiration — it brings the resilience of one of nature’s toughest survivors directly to your skin, combining beauty with proven performance.
E
Ectoin
One of the most extensively researched modern skin-protective ingredients used in cosmetic science. Originally discovered in microorganisms that survive in some of the world's harshest environments—including salt lakes, deserts and extreme temperatures—it functions as a natural protective molecule, helping cells remain stable and hydrated under environmental stress. This unique mechanism has made Ectoin one of the most extensively studied skin barrier ingredients introduced into cosmetic science in recent years. Rather than simply attracting moisture to the skin, Ectoin forms a protective hydration shell around proteins, cell membranes and other vital cellular structures. This helps reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL), supports the skin's natural barrier and improves its resilience against everyday environmental stressors such as UV exposure, pollution, dry air and temperature extremes. Clinical studies have also demonstrated improvements in skin hydration, barrier function and overall skin comfort with regular topical use. For men, these benefits are particularly relevant. Daily shaving, outdoor exposure, air-conditioned workplaces and urban pollution can all place stress on the skin, often leading to dryness, irritation and visible redness. Ectoin helps strengthen the skin's natural defences, allowing it to better withstand these challenges while maintaining a smoother, healthier-looking complexion throughout the day. At MKND, we selected Ectoin because it reflects our philosophy of combining high-performance cosmetics with evidence-based skincare. Rather than simply masking imperfections, our BB Cream is formulated to support the skin beneath the makeup, helping maintain hydration, strengthen the skin barrier and improve resilience against the stresses of everyday life. Ectoin works particularly well alongside Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate. Whilst Ectoin helps protect the skin from environmental stress and supports barrier function, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate helps calm visible redness and irritation. Together, they provide complementary benefits that help men's skin look healthier, feel more comfortable and remain resilient under daily environmental and shaving-related stress.

H
Hemisqualane
Hemisqualane is one of the newest generation emollients used in modern skincare and colour cosmetics, valued for its exceptional spreadability and lightweight feel. Although its INCI name is C13-15 Alkane, it is more commonly known throughout the cosmetic industry as hemisqualane because of its close relationship to squalane, a naturally occurring component of the skin's protective lipid barrier. Produced from renewable plant sugars using advanced biotechnology, hemisqualane delivers many of the conditioning benefits associated with traditional squalane while offering a drier, lighter and virtually undetectable finish on the skin. One of hemisqualane's greatest strengths is the way it transforms the application of a product. It spreads quickly and evenly across the skin, reducing drag during application and leaving behind a smooth, breathable film that is barely noticeable once applied. Unlike many botanical oils and richer emollients, it conditions the skin without leaving an oily residue or unwanted shine, making it particularly well suited to modern complexion products. This lightweight performance is especially relevant for men. Many avoid skincare and cosmetics because they expect products to feel greasy, sticky or obvious on the skin. Hemisqualane helps overcome these concerns by allowing products to feel natural throughout the day while maintaining a clean, matte appearance. The result is skin that looks healthy and well cared for without feeling as though it is wearing makeup. Beyond improving skin feel, hemisqualane also supports the skin's natural barrier. Although it is not considered an active treatment ingredient like a vitamin or peptide, it helps reduce transepidermal water loss by forming a lightweight protective layer that slows the evaporation of moisture from the skin's surface. This assists the skin in maintaining hydration while helping minimise the tightness and dryness that commonly occur after shaving or exposure to harsh environmental conditions. Hemisqualane also improves the overall performance of a formulation. Its excellent spreadability allows pigments and skincare ingredients to be distributed more evenly across the skin, promoting consistent coverage and a more uniform finish. This combination of technical performance and refined skin feel has made hemisqualane an increasingly popular ingredient in high-performance primers, complexion products and modern colour cosmetics. Another important advantage of hemisqualane is its outstanding compatibility with silicone-based formulations. It blends seamlessly with silicone elastomers, contributing to the smooth, soft-focus finish expected from premium primers while maintaining excellent wear throughout the day. Rather than sitting heavily on the skin, it helps create an even surface that allows complexion products to apply more uniformly and maintain a natural appearance for longer. Hemisqualane is suitable for a wide range of skin types. Its lightweight structure makes it comfortable for oily and combination skin, while its moisture-retaining properties also benefit normal and dry skin. Because it is highly refined and non-comedogenic, it is generally well tolerated by sensitive skin and is unlikely to contribute to blocked pores or feelings of congestion. In cosmetic formulations, hemisqualane contributes far more than simple moisturisation. It improves application, enhances slip, reduces tackiness, supports even pigment distribution and helps create a finish that looks natural rather than cosmetic. These qualities make it particularly valuable in products designed to perform well under everyday conditions while remaining virtually invisible on the skin. At MKND, hemisqualane has been selected because it reflects our philosophy that cosmetics should improve both the appearance and condition of the skin without feeling heavy or obvious. Its ability to support the skin barrier, improve product performance and deliver a natural, weightless finish makes it an ideal ingredient for men seeking products that look authentic and feel comfortable from morning until night.

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, is one of the most extensively researched ingredients in modern skincare. Its ability to improve multiple aspects of skin health makes it a true multitasker, helping to strengthen the skin barrier, balance oil production, reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, even skin tone and soften the visible signs of ageing. Unlike many active ingredients that target a single concern, niacinamide supports the skin's natural function. It helps increase the production of ceramides and other essential lipids, strengthening the skin's protective barrier and improving moisture retention. A healthier barrier means skin is better equipped to defend itself against environmental stress while feeling smoother and more comfortable. For men, niacinamide offers particular advantages. Men's skin is typically thicker, produces more sebum and is regularly exposed to the stress of shaving. Excess oil can contribute to unwanted shine and make pores appear more noticeable, while repeated shaving can leave the skin feeling irritated and vulnerable. Research has shown that niacinamide can help regulate excess sebum, reduce the appearance of enlarged pores and support a stronger, healthier skin barrier, making it well suited to everyday men's skincare. Niacinamide is also recognised for its ability to brighten the complexion by helping reduce the transfer of melanin to skin cells. Rather than bleaching the skin, it promotes a more even-looking skin tone and helps diminish the appearance of post-inflammatory marks and uneven pigmentation over time. At MKND, we pair Niacinamide with Caffeine in our Concealer because the two ingredients complement each other exceptionally well. While caffeine helps reduce the appearance of puffiness and visible signs of fatigue around the eyes, niacinamide improves skin barrier function, supports hydration and promotes a brighter, more even-looking complexion. Together, they help tired eyes appear naturally refreshed while delivering genuine skincare benefits beneath the concealer. Niacinamide also works exceptionally well alongside soothing ingredients such as Bisabolol and Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, creating formulations that calm visible redness while helping maintain resilient, healthy-looking skin. With decades of scientific research supporting its effectiveness, niacinamide has earned its reputation as one of the most reliable and versatile ingredients in cosmetic science. It doesn't promise overnight miracles. Instead, it consistently helps skin look healthier, stronger and more balanced with regular use.

Silicones
Silicones have become essential in modern skincare and cosmetics because of their proven safety, performance and versatility. They are among the most thoroughly studied ingredients in the beauty industry and are consistently rated as non-toxic, non-irritating and environmentally stable. Unlike heavy natural oils, silicones create a breathable, lightweight barrier that locks in hydration, smooths texture and enhances product spreadability without clogging pores. Their unique structures also make formulas more elegant, long-lasting, and comfortable on the skin. Far from being a “cheap filler,” silicones are high-performing materials that ensure our products deliver a refined, reliable finish — and they are often safer and more sustainable than many so-called “natural” alternatives.
Sodium Chloride

Sodium Hydroxide
A strong alkaline compound that is essential in the traditional art of soap making. It acts as the catalyst for saponification — the process that transforms oils, such as olive oil, into soap (sodium olivate). By the end of this process, all of the Sodium Hydroxide has been completely neutralised, leaving behind a safe, gentle cleanser. Its use reflects both the precision and craft required to create high-quality soap.
